New low-leakage TVS product: Designed for extended battery life and stable performance in portable devices
2025-10-24
In battery-powered portable electronic devices, reducing leakage current is a critical design consideration. If the TVS (Transient Voltage Suppression diode) has excessive leakage current, it will directly increase the overall device power consumption and shorten battery life. Targeting the market Many TVS devices (including some international brands) have been experiencing relatively high static leakage currents, prompting Born Semiconductor to introduce Low-Leakage Series TVS, with its outstanding low-leakage characteristics, provides engineers with an ideal solution.
This series comes in three package types: SOD-123FL, SMA, and SMB. It operates at a supply voltage of 3.3V, with a maximum leakage current below 1μA—though actual measurements can even be kept within 0.1μA (see Figure 2). Additionally, its protection performance is equally reliable, capable of handling Subject to a 1200V voltage under the 8/20μs waveform. Currently, the TVS series has achieved large-scale mass production and is being adopted by multiple customers, particularly well-suited for battery-powered devices with stringent static power consumption requirements.

Why choose a 3.3V low-leakage TVS?
1. Better suited for battery systems
Compared to traditional 5V TVS devices, 3.3V TVS offers more precise clamping protection for battery voltages and is gradually becoming the preferred solution for a wide range of portable devices.
2. Break through process barriers to achieve precise protection
The manufacturing of 3.3V TVS devices presents specific technical challenges, but Bern Semiconductor has successfully achieved mass production through targeted technological advancements, helping customers strike the optimal balance between low-power design and system protection.
The Core Value of Low-Leakage TVS Devices in Smart Battery Systems
1. Extend battery life
Excessive TVS leakage current can continuously drain power. A low-leakage TVS device can significantly reduce static power consumption, thereby effectively enhancing battery life.
2. Ensure Signal Stability
Excessive leakage current can introduce circuit noise, disrupting high-precision signal links (such as battery management circuits) and leading to distorted power measurements. Low-leakage TVS devices help maintain signal integrity, ensuring stable system operation.
3. Strengthen Protection Reliability
A TVS with excessive leakage current may respond slowly and is prone to performance degradation over time due to self-heating during prolonged operation. In contrast, a low-leakage TVS can more quickly and reliably handle transient overvoltage events such as ESD and surges, effectively protecting both the battery and the circuitry.
4. Meeting high-precision detection requirements
Modern smart devices feature high-precision sensors that are incredibly sensitive to signals. Low-leakage TVS diodes minimize interference with the measured signals, ensuring accurate battery parameter acquisition and laying the foundation for precise power management.
